Dear Readers:

Thank you all very much for your continued interest in my books.
Many of you have written asking when my next novel will be published, and several of you have offered suggestions as to which character should take a starring role! I'm happy to let you know that I am currently working hard on a new story and making good progress.

It's been frustrating to hear how many of you have had trouble finding copies of PAYBACK, the final book in the Raven trilogy. Unfortunately, it's out of print at this time and I can only suggest that you search Amazon.com, or other sites that carry used books. I know copies are selling for as much as $40 and I wish there were something I could do to reduce the price. Sadly, it's out of my control. If you're lucky enough to own a Kindle or a Sony e-reader, you can download an electronic edition. You could also write the publisher at MiraBooks.com and ask if they have any stored copies they would be willing to sell to you. Failing that, you could request that they reprint the book!

I have taken the past several months away from writing in order to become more actively involved in a volunteer project that has been dear to my heart for a long time: helping teens who are "aging out" of the state foster care system. These largely invisible children are in care precisely because they have no family, no support system, no money, and no older and wiser mentors to offer a helping hand, or a consoling word. Although the work has its challenges, I have found it deeply rewarding and hope I may have contributed something to improving the future for at least a few teens.

Finally, here's a hint about what I'm currently writing. My walking partner, mystery novelist Diane Mott Davidson, is reading chapters of the new book as I write them. She now threatens to kill me off in her next Goldie mystery if I don't finish the story soon!

Faced with such a threat, I'm working hard! In the meantime, here's wishing you all many hours of happy reading.
